Glossary

The Standard Knowledge Management Tool (SKMT) is an online tool, open to all and maintained by the Health Informatics SDOs to:

  • Improve the ability to find existing health informatics standards.
  • Simplify and reduce the time taken to create and maintain standards through ease of access to standards, terms and definitions already developed.
  • Be more inclusive by giving users the chance to report issues with a standard and request changes or enhancements beyond the standards organization’s processes.
  • Improve the quality and consistency of health informatics terms.
  • Provide access to health informatics terms and definitions in one place.

SKMT was developed in the early 2000’s and has been used by SDOs for over 10 years, with new organisations joining the tool community over the last 5 years, including ISO, HL7, and IHE. There is no other resource that gathers standards information, terms, and definition information together in one place. Over 28000 users, 280 documents and document parts, 4000 terms defined.

The set of standards “International Patient Summary” has gained in accessibility through its dedicated website.
